WINDOWS / GLASS OPTIONS

There are a range of specialty glass types to choose from to suit your individual requirements. The following diagram shows some of the specialty options which can be added to ensure your windows meet your desired criteria. The components shown in the diagram are described in more detail below:

Low E (low emissivity) glass

Low E glass is fitted on the inside pane of the double glazing unit. There are two types of low E glass, hard and soft coated.  Pilkington K is a hard coat low E glass which is one of the best selling glass systems in the UK. We also fit Planitherm Total energy efficient glass from Saint Gobain which has a soft coat.  The special coating on both these types of glass acts to firstly reflect heat back into the room rather than let it escape through the windows and also lets in free heat from the sun (known as passive solar heat gain) which warms the room and contributes to the energy efficiency of your windows.

Argon gas filled units

Argon gas can be introduced into the cavity to improve its thermal properties. Argon helps to reduce heat loss by slowing down convection in the air space. This helps to keep more heat in during winter and more heat out in the summer. The argon filled unit also helps to keep the inner pane warmer resulting in less condensation. Argon is also colourless, odourless, non-flammable and non-reactive.

Warm edge spacer

The warm edge spacer SGG SWISSPACER V is manufactured from special fibreglass, composite material with an extremely thin stainless steel foil for maximal possible insulation. By fitting a warm edge spacer as opposed to the standard metal profile you can maintain higher temperatures at the edges of the glass panes, this not only helps to reduce cold radiation but also reduces the risk of condensation forming.

For further information please visit the SSG SWiSSPACER website.
