As homeowners, we all face the challenge of adding valuable living space to our homes and up till now we have had the choice of a costly extension or a conservatory. But what about the combination of the two?
A solid roof conservatory combines the light and airy feel of a traditional conservatory, yet with the solid, tiled roof and energy efficiency of an extension. It’s rapidly becoming the desired choice for extended living by consumers across the UK, including those looking to replace their existing conservatories, helping to make a real room extension that’s part of the house.
Solid roofs are designed to blend seamlessly with your home, providing substantial extra living space that can be harnessed for a wide range of uses.
Whether you are looking for a contemporary or traditional extension to your home, a solid roof can provide a highly functional, flexible and luxurious new living space.
Do I need Planning Permission?
This is something Custom Glaze can take care for you if you do require it. While permitted development rights allow for the construction of many conservatories without planning permission sometimes these are wavered in house deeds, conservation areas or if your house is a “new build” as developers sometimes place restrictions on them. For more information please read our Planning Permission Page.
How long will it take to install a solid roof / replacement roof?
Every solid roof / replacement roof is different and our team work efficiently to ensure that there is minimal disruption to your home. Once we have begun the process, we will be able to give you a more accurate estimate of how long it should take. It all depends on the design and style! If you want to find out more information about the build process please visit here.
Will my home be darker with a solid roof?
Many people may worry that having a tiled roof will restrict the amount of natural light that comes into their conservatory. However, you will still gain light from the windows surrounding your conservatory and you can also choose to have roof windows fitted. Plus, many people find that painting their ceiling white reflects the light.
What is the cost of a solid roof / replacement roof?
Every solid roof / replacement roof is different, it is always best to visit our Milton Keynes showroom, or request a sales rep to visit you to discuss the options.
What is a U-Value?
U-values measure how effective a material is as an insulator. The lower the U-value is, the better the material is as a heat insulator. Therefore a solid roof with a U-Value as low as 0.18, can keep out the cold, retain the warmth and help cut down on heating bills.
A light and spacious GardenRoom offers both a dining experience and a place to relax. A tiled roof is also far more energy efficient and soundproof than a typical glass/poly roof conservatory, important when you want a room to entertain or relax in all year round.
You can also specify beautiful hardwood beams that also add strength to the overall structure, integrated spotlights and market leading Velux rooflights to let in more natural light and additional ventilation into your new extended living area.
While a conservatory is a glazed extension to the home, a solid roof room can be designed to incorporate the features of the main house in terms of brickwork, roof tile colour and even roofing pitch, much like a traditional extension.
Custom Glaze a completely bespoke design and you may even want to consider incorporating the very latest bi-folding doors into the overall design, which will open up your GardenRoom to the world outside.
For those homeowners changing their existing conservatory into a Solid Roof, then the transformation from both the inside and outside is quite amazing.
